VOLUNTEERS
COFFEE MORNING
This is another opportunity for volunteers and anyone else who wants to come along to catch up with each other, with any changes or developments in the shop or meeting place and maybe to sample our current recipe as printed in the Village Magazine and shown here on the website.
Volunteers met on Tuesday 12 April 2016 for a chat over coffee and cake. They meet together twice a year for an update on any changes that have taken place and to put forward new ideas for the future. This time was no exception because the Committee has adopted a new constitution and conducted a risk assessment. New ways of doing things will make things safer for volunteers and customers. Future social events include a summer garden party – watch this space for news of when this will be!
PAST EVENTS
The Meeting Place and Shop is run by a dedicated and willing group of volunteers. Most volunteers do a regular slot on a weekday of their choice and we all share a rota on Saturdays. Two volunteers manage the rota, others do the weekly shopping and others are committee members. Three or four times a year we have a volunteers’ lunch in a local pub and twice a year their is a volunteers’ coffee morning to share ideas and each other’s company. If you would like to join us please contact any one of the volunteers or any member of the committee. Anyone can come to a volunteers’ meeting if they want to.
Bring & Share Summer Lunch 2016
On Wednesday 27 July, fifteen volunteers and helpers met for a Bring & Share summer lunch. We were lucky enough to take advantage of the lovely garden belonging to Jane Beharrell and Ron Whitlock and what is more, the weather kept dry. We had two big gazebos and three tables borrowed from St John’s Church so we were able to make ourselves comfortable and enjoy all the delicious food that everyone had contributed to the feast. Ron was kind enough to show some of us round the garden afterwards and we admired all the colourful flower borders and productive vegetable plots. A very enjoyable way to spend a weekday lunchtime and big thanks to Ron and Jane for being our hosts.
Christmas Bazaar 2013
In December 2013 we helped out at the Christmas Bazaar in St John’s Church. We had our own stall of Christmas gifts for sale, the children were making paper chains and Christmas cards, constructing nativity scenes from kitchen and toilet rolls and old tea towels for head dresses, and much more besides. There was a dressing-up box which proved very popular and our Treasurer took photos of children, and sometimes parents as well, posing in front of the big Christmas tree. Each family was sent a Christmas card incorporating their own family photo. Altogether a great morning. You can see photos of the event here
A Xmas lunch was enjoyed by the Volunteers on 4 February 2014 at the Guinea. You can see photos here.

COFFEE MORNINGS
Another Volunteers’ Coffee morning was held on Tuesday 14th April, and Dorothy brought some of the cake featured as the May recipe, which she had made specially. Delicious! The volunteers were brought up to date on past events, planned ones and other matters. The next meeting will be on 13th October. Non-volunteers are always very welcome, so if your friends and neighbours would like to come – do bring them along.
Another Volunteers’ coffee morning was held on 14 Apr 15 and everyone enjoyed it. You can read Dorothy’s notes on what was discussed here.
A previous Volunteers’ coffee morning was held in the church from 10.30-12.00 on Tuesday, 14th October 2014. You can see some photos of the event here and read Dorothy’s notes here.
