The Friends of St John’s Church Safari Supper 2016 took place last Saturday 26 June. The weather could not have been more uncertain – a few hours of blue sky and sunshine followed by dark sky, thunder and a deluge followed by blue sky again…. Tim & Carolyn were on tenterhooks – what would we get during the time when welcome drinks were being served in their garden between 6.30 and 7.15?
Happily, the rain kept off and all the gazebos had kept the chairs dry, so over 50 people were able to enjoy their drinks and meet each other whilst receiving an envelope which contained the address of where they would find their starter. Off we all went by car or on foot to our different destinations. By 8.15, having eaten our starters, we were on the move again to another venue with another group of people to more kind hosts who were offering a main course.
During the next hour the rain came down again, but by 9.15 it had stopped and we were able to make our way back to St John’s Church where there was a selection of delicious desserts served by Karen, Brenda and Elizabeth and wonderful home-made liqueurs served by Tim & Carolyn.
The raffle was well supported and the Treasurer, Ken gave a big vote of thanks to everyone who had cooked, hosted, served, washed up or donated raffle prizes and generally made it a night to remember. We made a profit of £861. This is earmarked for the maintenance and upkeep of our church building and churchyard – a great result thanks to the generosity of so many people and the organisers thank you most warmly.
