Treasure Hunt

TREASURE HUNT – 1 September 2013

Held last Sunday, September 1, commencing at the village hall. Doors opened at 2 p.m. and folk arrived promptly ready for the off. Chris had hoped folk would drift in over a period of time so he could arrange staggered starts. As it was everyone was keen and all turned up at once. Fortunately we had a great variety of cakes kindly cooked and donated by our supporters so we were able to delay the start for some.

All the clues were taken from the surrounding village areas and everyone was expected to travel approx. 12 miles by car to complete the course. Main roads were avoided so people were able to get out of their car to seek some answers. There was an entrance fee of £2 per person and scoring was based on correct answers, time taken and mileage readings. There were 10 teams in all, 8 in cars and 2 on push-bikes.

The scoring was very close and most got at least 75% correct answers. The total possible score was 31 and the winning team of Mrs Mary Wilson and Mrs Maggie Linwood scored 29 points. In second place also with 29 points were Mrs Jane Beharrell and Mr Ron Whitlock, who completed the course on a tandem, well done! In third place were Mrs Liz Mayston and Mrs Chris Spring.

Cash prizes were available for the top three teams but everyone was able to indulge in more cake, tea and coffee. The bar was also open for those that felt in need of fortification after their expedition. Well done everyone.
