Village Hall AGM Held Wednesday May 4th
Our Annual General Meeting was held in the Village Hall on Wednesday 4th May. The outgoing Chairman, Chris Bashford gave his report and also submitted a full Trustees report for the year. He thanked all the Trustees and members of the Entertainment and Fund Raising team for their hard work this year. A presentation was given by the Treasurer, outlining the financial situation over the last 4 years so everyone could see the difficult position the Village Hall is currently in.
In order to complete the refurbishment and extension of the old hall the Trustees were forced to take out a £10,000 loan payable by quarterly payments of over £400 until July 2015. This along with the recession over the last couple of years has seen an income deficit of over £1400 for years 2009 and 2010. This deficit is unsustainable so the Trustees, along with our Entertainment and Fund Raising team have been looking at ways to raise money more economically. So far this year has seen some resounding successes, our pancake day a prime example, the 100+ club very well subscribed, Bingo looking like a winner. Even our 100+club social evening that was put on as a thank you to our members made well over £300. We are looking at other events such as a Clairvoyant evening, Murder Mystery Dinner and others to help raise more funds. We are also looking at ways to save money; by changing our electricity supplier; by considering installing solar panels (if we can get a grant); by running more cost effective events. Do please keep coming to our events and with your help we will turn this around.
The following individuals were elected as Trustees for 2011/12, Chris Bashford (Chairman), Glyn Adams (Secretary), Carolyn Lister (Treasurer). The role of Vice Chairman will be discussed and decided upon at the first Trustees meeting following the AGM. A new role of Social Secretary was proposed and agreed, Jackie Bird was elected to this role. With the smaller group of Trustees and separate fund raising group the Social Secretary will have responsibility for maintaining good communication between the groups. Betty Barrance and Jackie Warren were nominated by the Friends of St Johns and the PCC respectively. They will serve again as nominated Trustees for the year 2011/12 also.
