Perfect Pancakes – Twin Tossers Win the Day!
What a fantastic day! The sun shone when I reported for duty as required at around 10:15 and kept shining all day. When I arrived Doreen, Coral and Bob had already been very busy; the bring and buy stall up and running, the raffle all laid out and vast quantities of pancake batter ready to go. There were cakes, scones and bread pud also made by Doreen and Coral’s fair hands. All we needed were some customers.
As 10:30 approached we all watched the clock; would they come or wouldn’t they. At 10:32 our first 2 customers arrived, five minutes later another two, then two more, then four, then more. Our worry about too few numbers soon became a worry about too many numbers, the stream became constant and apart from a ten minute lull at midday (just time to refill the topping bowls) we did not stop right through to 4:00pm.
We estimate 150 pancakes were tossed, for approximately 70-75 people. The Village Hall is very fortunate to have such supporters. Never have so many pancakes been tossed by so few to feed so many…. or something similar!
Where do we begin our thanks: let’s start with our supporters who kept us on our toes all day but were so generous with their donations; thanks also to those who dropped into the kitchen for a spot of recreational washing up; then Tim for his endless supply of tea and coffee, Bob for manning the bring and buy and selling raffle tickets, in between mad dashes for more eggs and milk; but our biggest thanks of all must go to the two ladies pictured above who tirelessly tossed pancakes all day. This mammoth undertaking raised a whopping £516.74 for the Village Hall.
THANK YOU ONE AND ALL
